2017 CMI Trophy: Swing to Win

The population of Taiwan Region’s golf club is growing, and the scale of CMI Trophy has also been increasing year by year. The 2017 CMI Trophy attracted nearly 250 CMI customers to join in at the Miramar Golf Country Club on 8 September 2017.

The Trophy’s ceremony included a luncheon with live music and the finest cuisine. The CMI Trophy creates a platform for customers to compete and mingle with other Mercedes-Benz owners; enhancing relationships between CMI and its valued customers.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet for auction at the 10th GRK Golf Charity Masters

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the GRK Golf Charity Masters on 19 August 2017, a Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet will be auctioned off for a good cause at the evening fundraiser. Both Stern Auto and the hotel The Westin-Leipzig have been supporting the charity event since its first iteration in 2008. The purchase price for such a model would start from €43,000. In addition, Stern Auto will provide 10 black V-classes for the four-day shuttle service.

“Regular employment for sales consultants…that’s why our turnover rate is so low”

Mercedes-Benz’s official dealer Han Sung Motor Co. is set for large-scale recruitment in the second half of the year. Kim, Jong Bok, managing director of Han Sung Motor Co.’s HR, said, “We will recruit more than 200 people in the second half of the year, in addition to the 200 people already selected during the first half of this year, having a total of 400 people as our new family.”

It is uncommon for mid-sized companies to select more than 400 new employees a year. Director Kim explained, “Han Sung Motor Co. is hiring to meet the growth rate of the company and the number of new hires has steadily increased since 2015.” Kim added, “Compared with 2010, our hires increased 1.8 times over the past year. The number of employees will increase from 1,400 to 1,600 by the end of the year and to 2,000 by next year.”

Regarding the appeal of being a Han Sung Motor Co. employee, Kim mentioned, “Our turnover rate was 6.8% in the first half of the year. Considering the turnover rate in general companies is 10-12%, this is quite low. Especially in the case of other import car dealers, our sales people barely leave. We have a sales person turnover rate of 5%, which is lower than the company’s average turnover rate.”

When asked about the reason why the turnover rate is so low Kim answered, “Han Sung Motor Co. offers regular employment to its sales consultants. Most foreign car dealerships classify their sales people as freelance traders. We have a unique position within sales, called the ‘Sales Master’. Thus, it is very natural for executives to originate from sales people as we acknowledge the professionalism of these staff.”

Additionally, Kim mentioned benefits for the company’s employees. “All employees are under the group’s accident insurance and every child of our employees are given 100% tuition support for both high school and university. The growth of Han Sung Motor Co. became the background for the steady increase in recruits. Han Sung Motor Co. increased sales annually by an average of 19% since 2011 until last year. Last year’s sales grew 16% to KRW 1.87 trillion and following this trend the sales is expected to exceed KRW 2 trillion this year. In fact, the reason for such sales increase is due to the professionalism of our employees.”

Regarding methods of improving employees’ professionalism, Kim answered, “Apprenticeship programs have been carried out since the time of entry. Seventy percent of technicians go through this apprenticeship program. The program gives students the opportunity to learn not only the technical content but also the opportunity to adapt the talents of Han Sung Motor Co. It has been about three years since Han Sung Motor Co.’s education program, such as the Mechanic Academy was held which provides intensive training for up to one year.”

Wages are another key factor. “During the first three months of entry, a salary that exceeds the minimum wage is paid. From four months, the same salary as regular workers is paid.” When asked about the reasons to why Han Sung Motor Co. concentrates on employee education Kim said, “It has been 32 years since Han Sung Motor Co. started selling Mercedes-Benz vehicles. We invested in difficult times such as the IMF crisis and filled in high-quality manpower. Eventually it is men who sells the cars. Sales doesn’t increase solely because of good quality. In order to have the best customer service, you have to train the best experts.”

Lastly, Kim explained the talent standards of Han Sung Motor Co. , “We are looking for people with a willingness to provide the best service through flexible thinking and accountability. Most employees will be in charge of sales and service, so we look more deeply into ‘character’ rather than ‘spec’.”

CMI 2017 Picnic Carnival

The inaugural auto industry picnic event in Taiwan Region was recently hosted by CMI; promoting a Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) to our existing customers in the hustle and bustle of metropolitan life.

The picnic event was held in Puhsin Ranch, and invited 500 customers to join. The event was not only a picnic, but also a place for all family members to have fun. CMI provided activities such as air jumper, bubble football, a concert by “MECBand” (小男孩樂團) and various delicious food stands. The event was a smash hit with customers, many of whom have requested for another picnic event in the future.

CMI inaugurates first-ever AMG Driving Experience

CMI held its first-ever on track AMG Driving Experience from 12 to 14 April 2017 at the Pan Bay race track in Pingtung to celebrate Mercedes-AMG’s 50th anniversary.

To offer a broad range of AMG dream cars, CMI brought 24 Mercedes-AMG cars to the track, including AMG 63 models: AMG GT, C63, CLS 63 and GLE 63. In the 43 family, there were E43, C43 and SLC 43, and within the 45 family, there were A45 and CLA 45.

Two sessions were held in one day; starting with a training session followed by an on-track experience of different car models as chosen by customers. The event helped customers understand more about AMG engine power and controllability in a safe environment.

CMI sponsors Looptopia electronic music festival

Electronic music has become the newest trend in Taiwan Region in recent years, and Looptopia is the biggest electronic music event in Taiwan Region that attracts people from around the world. With Martin Garrix (awarded the No.1 trophy for top 100 DJ in 2016 & 2017), and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike (awarded the No.1 trophy for top 100 DJ in 2015) for the main performances, Looptopia attracted more than 32,000 people to join the two-day-event.

To take part in the electronic music trend and stay connected to the young generation, CMI joined as a major sponsor of Looptopia; hosting a CMI booth filled with interactive games to engage the young generation with the CMI brand.

Breakfast Creek Wharf site cleared in preparation for the construction of Australia’s first Mercedes-Benz Autohaus

A new beginning for a well-known piece of real estate with a chequered history is well on its way with construction set to kick off on Australia’s first Mercedes-Benz Autohaus.

Demolition of the Breakfast Creek Wharf in Newstead has wrapped up and workers will soon be on site building the A$100 million Autohaus. It is scheduled for completion in July 2018.

Mercedes-Benz says its Autohaus, opposite the famous Breakfast Creek Hotel and across the road from historic Newstead House, will be the largest of its kind in Australia and include a full service dealership, a Mercedes museum and a service centre.

CMI holds Jungle Fever smart party

With the milestone of reaching 1,000 smart vehicles in sales in 2016, Dr. Annette Winkler, CEO and Director of Smart Automobile, kept her promise of coming to Taiwan Region to celebrate this moment with all smart customers. CMI hosted a customer appreciation Jungle Fever smart party for all owners who purchased a smart car in 2016.

The CMI Kuandu smart showroom was decorated as a jungle and all smart vehicles were made to look like wild animals. The party included a scavenger hunt, street performers, and a dance floor with a live concert from a famous rapper in Taiwan Region. The highlight of the party was when Dr. Winkler handed out the keys to the 999th, 1,000th, and 1,001st customers as a token of appreciation.
